The simmering feud between hip-hop icons, Kendrick Lamar and Drake, is no secret to any ardent follower of the genre. The rap industry was recently set ablaze when Drake dropped his explosive diss track, “Family Matters.” Fellow Compton rapper, Problem, recently revealed Kendrick Lamar’s reaction to the track, giving us a peek into the dynamics and high-speed responsiveness in the world of rap battles.
“Family Matters” by Drake audaciously fired shots at several stars, including Metro Boomin, Rick Ross, A$AP Rocky, and The Weeknd. His sharpest barbs, however, targeted Kendrick Lamar. Drake implicated Lamar in serious allegations, including physically abusing his fiancée, Whitney Alford, and controversially suggested Lamar’s child might actually belong to his longtime manager, Dave Free.
The reaction from Kendrick Lamar was not only swift but intense as well. Seizing the moment, Lamar retorted with the track “Meet the Grahams,” crafted in an incredibly short period, containing equally contentious claims about Drake. Among them, the Canadian rapper was accused of preying on underage girls, concealing a daughter, and associating with sex offenders.
Kendrick’s response was instant. According to Problem, aka Jason Martin, Kendrick seemed eager for the opportunity. “He was like, ‘Say less.’ … The song [‘Meet the Grahams’] got uploaded! I said, ‘Wait, wait, wait!'”
Despite the intense rivalry and sharp exchanges, it seems Drake is choosing to move on from the feud. In the aftermath of the song “The Heart Part 6,” Drake has made attempts to assert his status as one of the greatest rappers of our time. This was evident in his social media post where he declared, “Goats don’t worry about one trick ponies.” His diss tracks against Kendrick have also disappeared from his social media platforms.
It’s clear that the hip-hop landscape is a hotbed of rivalry, quick reactions, and, of course, some of the sharpest wordplay in the history of music. This recent feud between Drake and Kendrick Lamar further underscores that fact, and fans are waiting with bated breath to see how this lyrical battle will unfold.
